A Letter from Cody & Ashley

We are extremely thankful that you have taken the time to read a little bit about us and our journey to becoming first time parents! We were both raised in large, open families where friendship and loyalty were the foundation of a healthy relationship. We look forward to being an active family by heading to the zoo, going boating, heading to Sunday School, caring for our little family farm, teaching our children how to fish, and celebrating their first catch!

Our Story

Our story dates back to our high school days where we explored shared hobbies like adventuring through the local reservoirs, walking our dogs, fishing, and even attending each other’s family gatherings. Our nine-year relationship has continued to prosper throughout all of the changes life has brought us. We were married just after graduating with our Bachelor’s degrees. Despite the challenges of school, new jobs, and multiple moves, we’ve been enjoying this journey God has set out for us. With our dream jobs, newly remodeled home, and being back in our hometown with our extended family, our story is only just starting as a family.

Cody in Ashley's eyes

Cody is a kind soul who has a heart bigger than most. He has always been a family man and adores being around our combined family. His quiet, patient and extremely supportive nature makes those around him feel comfortable and welcome.  Cody’s favorite activities include fishing, hunting, and adventuring up the river. He is also a master chef and makes some really delicious meals which I sure do appreciate! Cody never complains as I frequently bring home new animals to join our family farm and animal loving family. Although his job in law enforcement is challenging, he always comes home with arms wide open for a hug and kiss. He looks forward to taking your child out on the water to experience the patience and persistence needed to be an excellent angler.

Ashley in Cody's eyes

Ashley is a loving, motivated, and committed wife, daughter, cousin, aunt, friend, volunteer and coworker. Her passion for helping others and ability to wear many hats has been apparent since we met 10 years ago. Her position as a veterinarian allows her to continue to give back to the community but also allows her a flexible schedule to make time for family and friends. Ashley enjoys going for hikes with our dogs, playing games with family, caring for our farm animals, and experiencing new cultures through travel. She looks forward to helping your child with school projects and whichever extracurricular activities they decide to delve into. She is a firm believer in allowing children to explore whether that’s through after school activities, traveling or learning a new skill. I’m blessed to call Ashley my wife, and mother of our soon-to-be child.

Our Family

Our family is thrilled to welcome another adventure buddy! Having our children grow up around a supportive family will always be of importance to us. We both come from very close-knit, large families who provide us with a huge support network. Whether it’s our weekly dinners, boating out at the local reservoir, playing a board game, or attending one of our relative’s concerts, sporting events, or plays, your child will be surrounded by opportunities to make millions of memories. We are truly blessed to share so many traditions with those we love.

Our Home in Colorado

We live in a beautiful, newly renovated home on a quiet street in our hometown. Even better, we are across the street from Ashley’s mother and only a block away from her grandmother. Cody’s family are only a short drive away as well. Living so close to relatives allows us ample time for family dinners, game nights, bon fires, and spontaneous chats. When renovating the home, it was important for us to ensure that there was plenty of space for games, toys, and family! We’ve spent months making our house the perfect home, and we are excited to fill its walls with laughter. Although accidental, our animal themed nursery is perfect for THE Ohio State newest little fan as well. GO BUCKS!

You’ll often find us there grilling, playing with our dogs, enjoying a game of crochet or corn hole, and gardening. Our ample land has allowed us to begin a small family farm including chickens and goats. We’re excited to have our children join us in the compassion and responsibility needed to raise animals with the respect they deserve.

Our Promise

Our promise to you is to raise your child to be their best self through encouragement, compassion and, most of all, love. We promise that their lives will be full of family trips, bedtime stories, delicious meals, and outside adventures.  We hope to encourage your child’s creativity with lots of crafts, music, and anything else he or she desires. We will share our values of hard work, education, and honesty. We are excited to share their life with you through pictures, letters, and visits to the extent that you feel most comfortable with.

More About Our Family
Our Pets

Our family doesn’t just include the two-legged kind. We have been blessed with three amazing rescue pooches (Shady, Archie and Grace) and one elderly rescue cat (BooBerry) that bring us laughter, companionship, and constant cuddles. Our pups have been amazing with our large family and enjoy running around the yard with the kiddos and secretly begging for those delicious toddler leftovers. We also have 11 chickens and two goats. They've been great additions to our homes! We love to watch their silly antics and enjoy their fresh eggs.

Our Faith

We continue to hold Christ at the center of our household. Some of our fondest memories are during Wednesday bible studies and those special sermons we've been blessed to hear together. We truly believe that it takes a village to raise a child. Not only are we extremely lucky to have more than twenty of our closest family members less than a thirty-minute drive of us, we will ensure our child is raised surrounded by a supportive church family. Our church has been extremely supportive and helpful throughout our marriage and adoption journey.

We live in the state of...

Colorful Colorado! Colorado offers us the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors during every season. From boating on the reservoir to snowmobiling in the mountains, there's an adventure for everyone to enjoy. You know the saying, "if you don't like the weather, wait five minutes". Our small town is full of parks, trails, and outdoor opportunities. We also have the luxury of living within two hours of our state capitol, Denver, and only thirty minutes from other large cities. There's not many days that there's not something to do around here to keep you busy!

Our Adoption Decision

We have long known that we wanted to be parents no matter which route we took to grow our family. We were drawn to adoption due to the fact that Ashley's family tree sadly includes genetics for a connective tissue syndrome called Ehlers Danlos. Although Ashley is not affected by the syndrome, we have decided that growing our family through adoption was the right choice for us.

Special Interests

Together, we love to fish, play with our dogs, tend to our garden/farm, play corn hole and enjoy local festivals. Although we love the great outdoors, we are also big fans of lazy weekends where we snuggle on the couch and simply enjoy each other's presence. Disney + has been a great addition our weekly movie nights!

Cody loves watching movies, fishing not matter what season, and college football (GO BUCKEYES). He somewhat jokingly says he cannot wait to put our child into a baby backpack and head to the river for some fishing. Cody recently got a smoker grill and that has only expanded his cooking repertoire.

Ashley loves baking, dancing, gardening, hiking and traveling. She also really enjoys sharing her passion for volunteering for animal based non profits with her younger cousins whether this is playing with shelter kittens or volunteering with underserved populations.
